Activities for Families and Children
School visits
For a contribution of $US 15 per person, we take a tour of the organic garden and school in order to share with visitors the generalities of the project, our history and journey, purpose and dreams. This activity lasts 30 minutes. All contributions go directly to the school’s Scholarship Fund, which allows more families to have access to our educational proposal. To learn more about this fund, watch the short video.
Additionally, we organize educational activities for families with children.
Ecological trail to Qelloraqay
In this short walk to the archaeological site of Qelloraqay we observe with our little explorers how nature works and through simple explanations about ecology we will recognize mother earth as our teacher and ourselves as part of her.
What will we do?
We will walk through farmland and Inca terraces with our naturalist interpreters specialized in walks with children. Just like the great scientists, we will use some didactic research tools and techniques that will allow our explorers to observe, question, understand and love nature.
We also explore the archaeological site of Qelloraqay built by our Inca ancestors.
- Starting point: Hotel or Plaza de Armas of Ollantaytambo
- Duration 2.5h – Aimed at families with children between 7 and 12 years of age.
- Cost per person: $US 45 (minimum 2 pax max 5 pax for 1 guide)
Itinerary
9:00 am Pick up from the families, girls and/or boys at their hotel (or meeting in the Ollantaytambo square).
After a brief introduction we start our walk to the archaeological site of Qello Raqay, between small irrigation ditches and farmland of the farmers of Ollantaytambo.
Apart from the simple fact of enjoying a fun educational outdoor excursion with a trained interpreter guide, the value of this activity lies in motivating children to be observers and curious in nature, as well as reflecting together on the impact of human beings about it from ancient times until now.
11:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. End of the tour at a local artisanal ice cream parlor where we will enjoy some delicious artisanal ice cream.

Transformation of a seed
During this family experience they will transform a Yarina seed, also known as vegetable ivory, into a beautiful, authentic jewel made with their own hands.
*The Yarina is an Amazonian palm tree whose seeds are collected responsibly when the fruit has ripened and the seed is found on the ground.
What will we do?
Step by step, the boys and girls will learn the transformation process of the seed: draw, carve, sand, polish and finish their creation: necklace, key ring or bookmark that they will take with them as a souvenir of this experience led by a local master craftsman.
